Where Climate Change Community Is Headed Next

Over the coming months, our network is shifting its center of gravity. Most of our day-to-day writing, learning and conversation will move to two community platforms we’ve been building for some time: Climate Tribe Social (climatetribe.social) and SDL5 (SDL5.com or SDL5.org — same site).

Climate Change Community remains the doorway. This is where you’ll find the Mission Statement, our announcements, and the posts explaining how the pieces fit together.

Opening day: December 21st, and possibly sooner

Our official opening day is December 21st. Preparations for SDL5 are moving faster than planned, so it may open earlier: the day after the U.S. midterm elections, or on Thanksgiving Day. If that happens, we’ll announce it here first.

If you’d like early approval before opening day, ask for a Zoom dialogue by emailing contact@climatechangecommunity.com. Please send messages with no links.

About 17 new blog posts are on the way

To prepare for opening, we’re adding roughly 17 new blog posts in the coming weeks within SDL5. They will introduce the platforms, the Five Emergencies, and the work ahead. Keep an eye out for them when we open.

One question under everything we build

How can ordinary human beings become better informed, better connected, better prepared and better organized to protect one another and the living world during a period of extraordinary change?

Both platforms exist to answer that question. Both are organized around the Five Emergencies, which we treat as one converging predicament rather than five separate problems:

  • The Climate Emergency: heating, extreme weather, energy, climate science and policy
  • The Ecological Emergency: biodiversity, oceans, forests, ice, fresh water, soil, food and wildlife
  • The Humanity Emergency: children and elders, families, health, mental health and climate grief, dignity and rights, a just transition
  • The Democracy Emergency: elections, the courts, press freedom, information integrity, civic action, digital rights
  • The Displacement Emergency: climate migration, disaster shelter, host communities, loss and damage, small islands and statelessness

One ecosystem, distinct roles

Climate Tribe Social is the home community. It’s a large, hands-on gathering of experts, professionals, skilled tradespeople, teachers, emergency support services, scientists, parents, young adults and many others. It’s large enough that we call it a city. It is organized into Collections and Spaces, new Spaces open almost every Sunday, and we are now inviting founding members. Founding and Senior status is permanent and closes after the first 2,350 subscribers.

SDL5 is the wider cooperative public square. We call it Self-Directed Learning about the Five Emergencies, but it is becoming much more than that. Most platforms are engineered to capture attention and sell it. SDL5 is designed for the opposite purpose: to focus attention on cooperation at the scale this moment demands. It is home to the Learning Out Loud series, a quote-based series where every quote is fact-checked first and posts often close with reflection questions for families and adults. We are also developing new, out-of-the-box features and strategies.

SDL5 is also taking in a large collection of earlier writing. Millys-cafe holds many posts that help young adults, especially in building emotional intelligence and maturity. Several of our retired or resting sites hold encouraging, practical posts as well. All of it is being brought into SDL5 so it can keep serving people. In keeping with one of our principles, archive, don’t delete, none of that history will be lost.

What we stand for

  • Members call the shots. The membership plays a real part in deciding how the platforms grow. No partner or funder buys a hand on the steering wheel.
  • No ads, no data sales. Your attention and your data are not for sale, and feeds are not engineered to make you angrier.
  • Green and honest AI. AI is used openly as a tool, and its energy, water and land costs are acknowledged. Human judgment keeps the final word.
  • Science-based and welcoming to all beliefs. People of every faith and none are equally welcome.
  • Verification as a habit. Claims are checked before they’re shared, and corrections are made in public.
  • Adults only. Membership is 18 and over. Younger family members take part alongside a subscribing parent.

What else is coming

  • The We-the-People Collective Force: a member-driven effort across both platforms, funded through partnership rather than charity, with practical household resilience at its heart: home food growing, seed-keeping, pollinator gardens and community science.
  • 11-Person Face-to-Face Dialogue Sessions: small-circle dialogues, with the first planned between December 21 and January 1.
  • Adaptive Resiliency Centers: community-powered hubs that bring this work into physical places.

What changes across the network

  • tito235.com (tito235.wordpress.com) is pausing regular posts for a few months. It will carry only announcements and causes we’re asked to amplify.
  • SDL5 becomes the new home for those regular posts, with some going to Climate Tribe Social.
  • Climate Change Community remains the doorway and explainer for the whole network.
  • Adaptive-Resiliency.info mirrors our posts, so they stay reachable if the main sites are ever slow or down.

Amplifying now

The next No Kings protest takes place on October 17th, in cities around the world.

Beyond these two platforms, I’m also working on other projects that I’ll announce in time. Our purpose is to turn concern into competence, together. Thank you for your patience, your support, and for being part of this community as it grows.
